hospital concert

On the way from Kigali to Kibungo, we stopped at a hospital to try to get some medecine for one of the travellers. We'd gotten a late start and it was dark, and a request that seemed simple was taking a long time. So Eric got out his guitar. Those lingering in the hospital courtyard (mainly school-age girls) listened giggling to "Stand by be" and started singing along with Kumb-by-ya. And then we got them to sing-- by then the crowd had grown rather large and included gorwn women and even a few men. It was remarkable how well they sang together and how they're body-language changed-- from shy to very confident-- as they sang. We told them their singing was beautiful but they already knew.
